THE HEAT IS ON!

I love Texas….it is in my blood.  There is no greater state in this wonderful country of ours, but we do have HEAT!!  We were spoiled this year with a very mild Spring and fairly nice start to Summer, but this week the heat is definitely ON!  For you “northern” folks, just imagine stepping out your front door with a giant, car sized hair dryer blowing in your face….that is a bit like it is for us to step outside. LOL

Many of you have been asking about trimming/cutting your pom’s coat for the summer.  I have read lots of controversy on the internet regarding this subject, however, I can only talk about my own personal experience.  We have had pomeranians for nearly 25 years now and for a good portion of that time, our poms were always cut short into a puppy cut for most of the summer….never shaved, but a nice rounded short cut all over.  My pups have always run outside, rolled in the grass, jumped in the weeds, waded in their little pools, etc., so for me, the short coat was easier to groom, collected less stickers and made them easier to remove, and made washing and drying time a lot shorter.  It always worked great and by the time Fall/Winter came around they were back in their nice, long pretty coats.  I have never had any issues with the coat not coming in as full….in fact, most of the time it was even fuller as it came back in.  Soooo, you will have to be the judge….I’m sure it did not work out that way for everyone.

One note:  Shaving your pom too short can actually prevent them from being able to cool themselves….I know it does not sound logical, but the hair on your pomeranian actually helps them to cool and prevents too much sun on their delicate skin.

Hope this helps….pomeranians are such lovely little creatures.  They are so full of life and love and I hope you are enjoying yours as much as I do mine!  🙂

Stay cool!  🙂

SPRING IS MAGICAL

March 25, 2016

Spring is such a magical time.  One day everything seems brown and lifeless and admittedly a bit dreary….and then as if someone waved a magic wand, everything is so alive and bursting with life and energy.

In Texas, we do not have the privilege of seeing a great contrast in seasons as so many do in other parts of the country, but Springtime here makes it all worth it.  Every green tree appears to have a spotlight on it making the light dance in the fresh green leaves.  And everywhere you look….from the tiniest spot to the majestic rolling hills, you can find color somewhere….truly magical.  Right now our bluebonnets are emerging and dancing with the Indian Paintbrush and the Lazy Susans….makes me want to explode with this indescribable feeling of awe for the goodness of our Creator.  He didn’t have to make it so beautiful and stimulating for our eyes, but He did….and I am so grateful.  No matter how hard life gets and what struggles we face, somehow the simple beauty of Spring still casts its spell and can often put everything into perspective for me.

I hope everyone is enjoying Spring wherever you are.  Take a moment to appreciate the beauty around you….we so often miss it in our busy world.

Our pups are growing and we are on the final stretch of getting many of them to their new homes in a couple of weeks.  Our poms seem to appreciate this time of year too….wish I could capture it in photos….they love to lay lifeless in the cool of the grass….I can’t tell you how many times I have run out to make sure they are alive…but they are just soaking up the warm suns rays as they enjoy the cool breeze…what a life!  🙂  It won’t last long here as once the temps start to rise we will ALL be seeking the coolest place we can find.  But for now…..I’m enjoying every second I can of this enchanting time.

This week I celebrate the new life that God has provided through the death and resurrection of His son….and I stand forever grateful.

WE ARE HOME

October 21, 2015

We are home!  Power has been restored and we are now in the process of finding a plumber from Adelaide to get all the plumbing fixed…not the greatest fun but necessary.  Our poms hit the ground running when we got home and I swear they were all “smiling”!  🙂

We have some minor smoke damage and our internet is still down at the house.  Please forgive me if I am delayed in updating the website and/or getting photos emailed out as the internet has not been restored yet and we aren’t sure how long it will take.

We had a new litter born yesterday to Rylee and Ringo and they are all doing well….I will be posting them in the next week or so.

Blessings to all….hope you are enjoying some lovely Fall weather and no wildfires!  🙂

WHERE DO I BEGIN?

October 19, 20015

I don’t know exactly where to begin.  Last Tuesday I was sitting and having lunch with my husband when he got called out for a brush fire (he is a volunteer firefighter in Bastrop County).  That small brush fire turned into the wildfire that has ravaged Bastrop County for the past 6 days.  We were evacuated from our home last Wednesday and although we do know that our home has not been destroyed we still have no power.  It has been such a crazy and hectic time with all of our pups, but we are all safe and “managing” the best we can.

I want to personally thank everyone for all the sweet notes, texts, calls, emails, etc….it has meant the world to us and kept us going.  Truly….I have had some very down days this last week and every time I heard from one of you it was like a breath of fresh air….we have felt so loved….

A special thanks to those of you who helped with our pups and “fostered” them for the past few days.  They are so disoriented right now and I know that little extra “TLC” is going a long way!

I have realized what an awesome community we have around us with our “pom” family.  Words cannot express how grateful I am for all of you….

As soon as power is restored we will be going home and I will get busy catching up with my emails, photos, etc.   Thanks so much for your patience through this whole ordeal.

On a sad note, we did lose all of Tiff’s babies.  She had three precious little ones just before the fire but they were very early and did not make it.  We aren’t quite sure what went wrong, but this has happened once before with her so we are keeping a close eye on her and we are going for a comprehensive check up soon.  She is doing fine now, but her hormones may be off.

Ziggy’s babies are adorable and getting bigger by the day….Ziggy has done great through this process….her babies were only 2 days old when we evacuated and she has not skipped a beat.  Will get new photos up this week.

Hope you all have fared better than we this past week, but we are so grateful to have a home to go back to and so sad to see the familes who have lost everything.  Bastrop is a resilient community and we will make it through this again!  🙂
