WHAT IS LOVE??

February 12, 2014
I have been thinking alot about “love” lately… (hmmmm, I wonder why? maybe because it is plastered everywhere we look right now?? LOL)
So what is love? Is it a warm, fuzzy feeling? Is it a desire in our hearts? Is it physical?? Is it chemistry or emotion? Do we keep it or give it away??
There is so much marketing and media based on “love”, but what is it really?
It is one of those things in life that we cannot live without, but defining it is difficult.
One thing we know….it is only expressed in “relationship” to someone or some thing….without an object of our love it cannot exist.
It is much like the wind….we cannot see it, but we can see the effects of it as it touches what is in its path. We see the embodiment of love as it is unleashed in acts of kindness, generosity and giving sacrificially. It is something that seems to only grow stronger if we set it free and give it away. It cannot be bought…it cannot be sold. It often causes us great pain, but binds us with bonds stronger than death. What an amazing thing it is…
May you all experience gifting one of life’s greatest and deepest treasures to someone very important to you this week and watch love grow! 🙂
(I know…I am a hopeless romantic, but I just can’t help myself! LOL)
Love to all!

BEYOND SWEET

Feb. 2, 2014
My last post was rather sad about losing Blossom’s babies last Friday. But I have to share one of the sweetest things that we have ever experienced here. Blossom was so sad as I was writing my last post and very engorged with milk from the lack of sucking from her new babies. I’m sure she was uncomfortable as well as very confused as to where her babies were.
After coming into my bedroom towards the end of the day, I was hoping to spend some extra time with Blossom to help console her loss, but instead I heard the sound of tiny puppies coming from Summer’s whelping box! She was not due for another 6 days, but there she was in labor and two already here! I immediately went into high gear and we got her into my bathroom to keep her separate from the other moms in my room. Blossom was about to lose her mind….she heard those tiny cries and was certain we had taken her babies. I could hardly bear to see her like that…pacing, scratching on the door, whining for the babies she desparately thought were hers…nothing would console her.
In the meantime, Summer went on to have 6 babies!! Twice what we were expecting and actually way too many for her to successfully raise. So…..once she was finished with labor and had her babies clean and comfortable, I gently “stole” two of them and went into the bedroom where Blossom was still anxious and pacing and whining and crying. I laid two of the babies in her box and she immediately jumped in and layed down. She let me put them on her teats and she did not move a muscle…in fact I have never seen her so still. She curled her little body around them and licked them over and then looked up at me….still as calm and still as I have ever seen her. She smiled at me and it brought me to tears….she was so incredibly happy to have babies again and the love she showed them was …..well I can’t put it into words. What a miracle….there she was with all that milk and no babies, and Summer would have had such a hard time trying to nurse them all….what a blessing. If she had delivered even a day later, Blossom’s milk would have begun to dry up. Such a sweet end to a very hard week.
We are SO excited about Summer’s babies and will have a litter picture up soon. She had 5 boys, 1 girl. Three black boys, one black & tan boy, and one light chocolate boy with some whitish shading. The little girl is a sable….not sure if she will be orange or cream sable….but beautiful. All are doing remarkably well and Summer doesn’t seem to mind sharing one bit… WOW…beyond sweet.

TOUGH WEEK

January 31, 2014
It has been a tough week and I’m so sorry to have to say that we lost all of Blossom’s litter.
Unknownst to us, she contracted a late term pregnancy infection and although she is doing fine now, the pups did not make it. She had a beautiful little girl and boy, both cream and white, and both alive and healthy at birth, but were not strong enough to survive the infection so young. We are very sad…..
Thanks to SO many of you for checking on us and I’m sorry to those of you who were so excited about this litter. These things happen, but always hard when it does.

Summer is doing VERY well and we are looking forward to her pups coming soon. We need a little “lift” after this week.

Hope you are all doing well and looking foward to February. (already?!)

JUST OVER THE HORIZON

January 7, 2014

Well this is my first post of the New Year…..what an amazing year this last one was on so many levels.  We had a wedding (my daughter) and a new baby (my son) and between those two things and lots of new puppies it made for a very busy year!  But it was such a great year and we are so blessed to have placed our babies in such wonderful, loving homes.  I never cease to be amazed at how many people are as crazy for poms as I am and it is so much fun meeting you and making new friends! We had a record number of litters in 2013 and we do NOT plan on trying to beat that record!  LOL….  It was a lot of work! 🙂  But we do have some fantastic litters planned for 2014 and we hope our pups will just keep getting better in all regards if that is possible.  Thanks to all of you who joined our “family” in 2013 and made it such a fun year!

It is cold and brown here in Texas (actually the cold part is unusual, but nice). But believe it or not, this is the time of year we have to work hard outside in preparation for Spring and the hot summer ahead.  I am not very motivated to go out to the barren, brown and lifeless state of affairs, but I have to view it like the sunrise…..the cold dark morning is pretty lifeless, but soon the “glow” appears and before long the light begins to appear and cast such a beautiful aura everywhere.  We are in the cold dark morning right now, but soon the glow will appear and life will begin springing up everywhere….isn’t that amazing?….every year without fail, the little flowers start to spring up in the forest and soon the trees begin to blossom….I can hardly wait.  Even in the deepest of our darkness, just over the horizon, …… there is always a hope of something wonderful.
